I am trying to make my way through “Introducing Genetics” for at least the second time. Where is my friend Leigh when I need her?? My science education was um, well….did I have a science education? Not much of one that I can remember, except that I did take biology in college when I was 30-something years old and learned more in one semester than I had learned in all three decades before. Nick still thinks it is funny that I always thought “opposable thumb” was “posable thumb.” But what the hell, same difference. We can do things the apes can’t do because we have thumbs. Which can, in fact, be “posed” in different positions. So there!
I do wish I had more time and the proper background to truly understand all this. I tried to read a book a while back called something like “Our genetic blueprint.” I was fascinated by it but understood very little of it. Maybe now that I’ve had biology and hung out with science majors at Agnes Scott, and especially if I can get through “Introducting Genetics” this time around, I will be ready to try ‘blueprint’ again!
